According to surveys, hiring managers and recruiters say hiring someone with a criminal record is easier than someone unemployed for 2 years

This comes from a survey done in September 2012 by Bullhorn, a company from Boston, Mass – an online recruiting software company. The survey was conducted in an attempt to help job candidates know what was holding them back from landing a job.

The survey involved 1,500 hiring managers who revealed some of the ‘long-lasting implications on a resume’ could be as a result of job hopping, a practice common with a large chunk of the younger workforce. It revealed that hiring managers may be in great need of younger people in their 30s but their job hopping tendencies made them turn to older individuals (even 55-year olds) with a steady employment history. Long-term unemployment could also work against you because according to recruiters, they said that it’s easier for them to hire someone with a criminal record – non-felony though – than it is for them to hire those who have been unemployed for two years. 78 percent of the recruiters also cited getting fired as one of the most damaging things for a candidate’s future employment prospects.
